Gardeners really dig a victory

THIS communal garden in Batley Carr scooped an award in Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing's annual gardening competition.
Rita King, chairwoman of Batley Carr and Purlwell TRA, and her neighbours in Conway Crescent won the most improved category in last year's competition.

And with the community grant the group received as a prize, members were able to develop the land by extending planting areas, adding vegetable plots and decorating with bird boxes and ornaments.

Rita said they were delighted to win the best communal garden category.
"Everyone works hard on the garden so it's wonderful to get recognition for our efforts," she said.
