A BATLEY snooker club was raided on Monday night by police as part of a joint operation with other organisations.
The police, fire service, Customs and Excise, Gambling Commission and Kirklees Licensing joined forces after information was received about the premises in Bradford Road.

A quantity of suspected cannabis was recovered from the scene and three men
aged 29, 28 and 27 were all arrested in connection with using the premises for the supply of controlled substances.

A 25-year-old man was also arrested who was wanted by police for other matters.

Thirteen gaming machines were seized from the premises for joint investigation by the agencies involved. An axe, samurai sword and a sheath knife were also recovered from the premises.

Following the arrests, further house searches in the Heckmondwike, Batley and Batley Carr area were undertaken where a further amount of suspected cannabis was also recovered.

Kirklees Inspector Nicola Gibson believes the Kirklees Anti-Social Behaviour Challenge partnership effort is really making a difference.

"This is really a sign of our intentions and is the first time that these particular agencies have worked together in this way across our region," said Insp Gibson.

"Although the challenge is about speaking to young people in the area, it is also about enforcement and looking at what can be the root causes of problems.

"In this particular warrant we did notice a large number of young people frequenting the snooker hall and it is those young people we need to engage with."

Insp Gibson said they had also made five test purchases at off licences as well as making reassurance visits. Three cannabis warnings had been passed out and there were 13 stop searches in known antisocial behaviour hotspots.

More than 20 homes were visited where young people or their parents were given advice and literature about summer activities available.
